Why are Fundamental Rights called Fundamental?
Fundamental Rights are called Fundamental because, ordinary rights can be easily changed by the legislature in its ordinary process in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies, but fundamental rights guaranteed and protected by the Constitution which is fundamental law of the land cannot be altered by any process shorter than that required for ammending the Constitution itself. Nor can it be suspended or abridged except in the manner laid down in the Constitution. They are fundamental in the sense that they are most essential for the all-around development of individuals.
